Nigeria has lost a former Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, whose death was announced on Thursday by the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Governor Fintiri, in a condolence message shared on his social media handles, described the late Mustapha as “a man of service, dignity and duty whose legacy will live on,” while praying Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
Mustapha, who was the elder brother to the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, also held the revered traditional title of Sardauna Adamawa.
He joined the Nigeria Customs Service as a young cadet and rose through the ranks until his appointment as Comptroller-General in 1999, a position he held until his retirement in December 2003, after more than 30 years of active service.
His passing has been met with deep grief among his family, the people of Adamawa State, and the Nigeria Customs Service community.
