Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced the addition of 50.4 megawatts to the national grid following the commissioning of a 63MVA, 132/33kV mobile substation in Eleyele, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking at the event on Thursday, Adelabu revealed that the project was executed by FGN Power Company in partnership with Siemens Energy of Germany. He noted that the initiative will benefit residents and businesses in Apete, Ologuneru, Sango, and other parts of Ibadan.
The minister explained that the development is part of the federal government’s plan to inject 302.4MW into the transmission network through six mobile substations nationwide. He added that another 50.4MW mobile substation is nearing completion at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
“With today’s commissioning at Eleyele, an additional 50.4MW is added, bringing the total from the six mobile substations to 302.4MW,” Adelabu said.
Earlier in June, the Director General of the Energy Commission, Mustapha Abdullahi, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has contributed 2,000MW to the national grid.
Despite these efforts, Nigeria’s electricity generation continues to fluctuate between 4,500MW and 5,148MW for a population exceeding 250 million, according to UGAMA TV.
