Female Drug Dealer, Five Others Arrested as Police Dismantle Trafficking Network in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six individuals, including a female suspect, after successfully uncovering a drug trafficking network in Isuaniocha, located in Awka North Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development on Saturday, said the arrests were made during a targeted raid by operatives of the Special Cultism Squad, Obosi Sector, acting on credible intelligence.

According to Ikenga, a significant quantity of dried leaves suspected to be hard drugs, along with other incriminating substances, were recovered during the operation.

“On the early morning of May 30, 2025, police operatives attached to the Special Cultism Squad conducted a raid in Isuaniocha, leading to the arrest of six suspects, including a female drug dealer,” Ikenga stated.

The arrested suspects have been identified as:

Chinyere Onwuka (F), 32 years

John Kennedy Onwuka (M), 36 years

Chidiebere Onyeze (M), 30 years

Echeazu Nonso (M), 35 years

Osita Chukwu Chialuka (M), 21 years

Nnebedum Wisdom (M), 25 years

The police spokesperson added that all suspects will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Awka for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths, warning that drugs remain a major catalyst for crime and deviant behavior.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to curbing drug-related crimes through sustained enforcement and community sensitization, particularly via the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) initiative.

“The Command is stepping up its advocacy against drug abuse through POCACOV—a program specifically designed to educate and engage young people on the dangers of illicit drugs and other criminal vices,” the Commissioner stated.

The operation highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies in Anambra to dismantle drug syndicates and protect the state from the social and security threats posed by narcotics.
