
The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has praised the administration of Enugu State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, on the occasion of its second anniversary, describing the governor as a Godsend for the people of Enugu State.
Hon. Okolo shared these insights during an exclusive interview with UGAMATV Host at his residence in Enugu on Friday. He characterized Governor Mbah’s transformative leadership over the past two years as “magical,” providing a comprehensive overview of the administration’s journey since its inception in 2023.
In discussing education, Hon. Okolo highlighted Dr. Mbah’s ambitious educational initiatives, which include the establishment of 260 technologically driven Smart Schools across all electoral wards in Enugu State. These schools are equipped with interactive digital whiteboards, internet connectivity, robotics and artificial intelligence centers, and modern ICT facilities, all designed to foster experiential learning and prepare students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and global competitiveness.
On the subject of agriculture, the Awgu local council chairman revealed that Governor Mbah’s administration has made significant investments in large-scale mechanized farming over the past two years. This includes funding farm activities and establishing agricultural clusters across the state’s 17 local government areas to enhance commercial agriculture and food production.
Hon. Okolo also spoke about his contributions as the local government chairman, emphasizing the importance of partnership and collaboration in executing projects that benefit the citizens of Enugu.
Addressing transportation, Hon. Okolo noted that Governor Mbah is spearheading a comprehensive overhaul of Enugu’s transportation infrastructure. This includes the strategic procurement of over 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and 2,000 city taxis, along with the development of ultra-modern transport terminals throughout the state.
In the realm of tourism, Hon. Okolo disclosed plans for the reactivation of dormant state enterprises, including Presidential Hotels Limited, the Enugu International Conference Center, and five-star hotels. Additionally, the establishment of the Awgu Games Village is aimed at attracting new investments, boosting the state’s economy, and creating employment opportunities.
On health care, Hon. Okolo informed UGAMATV that Governor Mbah has made a substantial financial commitment to enhance primary health care in the state. This includes the construction of 260 ultramodern Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across all electoral wards. According to the local government chairman, this initiative aims to provide accessible and quality healthcare services to residents, ensuring a healthy workforce essential for economic productivity.
In his overall assessment of the two years in office for Governor Mbah and the future prospects for the people of Enugu, Hon. Okolo described the administration’s progress as a step in the right direction. He affirmed his full support and cooperation as the chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, pledging to contribute to the realization of Governor Peter Mbah’s bold vision to grow Enugu’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within eight years.
