Federal Government Expresses Deep Concern Over Palm Sunday Jos Attack, Pledges Justice

The Federal Government has expressed its profound concern regarding the tragic incident that occurred in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North on Palm Sunday.

The government conveyed its sympathies to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and citizens of Plateau State.

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government of Nigeria, I extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Plateau State,” stated the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

“I want to assure Nigerians that security agencies acted promptly in response to the incident. Troops under Operation Enduring Peace were swiftly deployed to the location following emergency calls.

“The military and other security forces secured the affected area, established control over key access routes, and initiated targeted search-and-clearance operations to apprehend the culprits.

“These rapid measures ensured that the situation was contained swiftly and prevented any further escalation,” the Minister remarked.

The Minister indicated that this response is part of a comprehensive and ongoing Federal Government security framework in Plateau State and the broader North-Central region.

He further noted that the Nigerian Armed Forces have been actively conducting clearance operations and intelligence-driven missions in vulnerable communities following recent attacks.

“Enhanced surveillance and troop deployments have also been instituted in high-risk areas, bolstered by joint military-police patrols and improved rapid response strategies. These coordinated initiatives aim to proactively neutralize threats and uphold stability,” he added.

“Just a few hours ago, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, convened a high-level meeting with the nation’s leading security and intelligence officials to assess the situation and determine further decisive actions towards achieving a lasting resolution. Following this meeting, President Tinubu has extended an invitation to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to engage in further discussions and devise a coordinated strategy for enduring peace and security,” he stated.

“These initiatives highlight the seriousness with which the Federal Government is addressing this issue and its unwavering commitment to ensuring that all necessary actions are executed swiftly and effectively.

“The Plateau State Government has also undertaken decisive and complementary actions in collaboration with federal authorities. A 48-hour curfew was enacted in Jos North immediately following the incident to stabilize the security situation and support ongoing operations. The state government continues to collaborate closely with security agencies to avert reprisals, restore tranquility, and facilitate investigations.

“Plateau State has historically faced localized security challenges associated with communal tensions and criminal activities. The recent events do not signify a collapse of national security, but rather a criminal incident within a recognized conflict-prone region—one that is being actively and resolutely addressed by the authorities.

“The Federal Government has instructed all security agencies to ensure that those accountable for this atrocious act are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice.

“There will be no refuge for criminal elements anywhere in Nigeria. Ongoing operations are already yielding actionable intelligence, and we are confident that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable.”
