The Federal Government has outlined significant progress made in counter-terrorism efforts across the country over the past two years, noting sharp declines in attacks and major breakthroughs in arrests, prosecutions, and military operations.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, cited a March 2025 Global Terrorism Index report showing terrorism incidents at their lowest point in over a decade in Nigeria.
According to him, security forces have recorded notable achievements across the North-East, North-West, North-Central, and South-East.
“In the past eight months alone, the Nigerian military neutralised over 592 terrorists in Borno State. More than 13,500 terrorists and armed criminals have been neutralised nationwide, over 17,000 arrests made, and more than 11,200 hostages freed,” Idris said.
He added that over 124,000 insurgents and their family members have surrendered, alongside the recovery of over 11,000 weapons.
