EXPERT LAMENTS NIGERIA POOR SDG PERFORMANCE

A development expert, Mr Michael Ale, has lamented Nigeria’s poor performance in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ale, while speaking to stakeholders on development and newsmen in Lagos at a forum organised by his development platform, ‘Development Nigeria,’ said the failure by the government to domesticate the SGDs development model was one of the factors stopping the country from realising the goals after five years.

He said, “If we want to grow, the Sustainable Development Goals must be domesticated in the Nigerian context. What is peculiar to Ghana may be very alien to Nigeria. What suits the United Kingdom that is already developed may not suit Nigeria that is a developing nation. Every nation is to pick the goals as a guiding principle on how to domesticate the implementation of that suggestion by the United Nations and bring it to our status of development and probably keep on developing and maintaining the level of development we have attained. Those 17 goals must be made to match the status of our development in Nigeria.”
