The Enugu State Police Command has arrested six male suspects for their alleged involvement in armed robbery, motorcycle snatching, and cult-related activities across different parts of the state.
The arrests, carried out during a series of operations, led to the recovery of two firearms, seven live rounds of ammunition, a stolen motorcycle, and other incriminating items.
Police spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that operatives attached to the Crack Tactical Squad intercepted a suspect, identified as Tochukwu Edeh, 27, during a routine patrol in the Abakpa area of Enugu on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, around 10:30 p.m. A search on him led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, concealed in a black bag.
In a separate operation on August 10, 2025, the Anti-Cultism Squad arrested three additional suspects—Odoh Friday (24), Okamkpa Onyeka Chukwu (22), and Uzor Okwudili (23)—following confessions from two notorious cultists already in custody. The suspects admitted to being members of the Black Axe confraternity. Items recovered included a locally made single-barrel pistol, an expended cartridge, blue candle sticks, and suspected cannabis.
Similarly, operatives of the Oji-River Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, arrested two suspects, Kosi Ani (22) and Ahmed Ibrahim (29), on August 9, 2025, while they attempted to sell a stolen Topway motorcycle. The duo later confessed to robbing a commercial motorcyclist the previous night.
SP Ndukwe confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of the cases.
Commending the operatives for their gallant efforts, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements. He further urged residents to continue providing the police with credible intelligence to enhance safety and security in Enugu State.
