Enugu Monarch Slams Facebook User With ₦100m Claim Over Alleged False Video

Defamation Row: Igwe Meniru Slams Social Media User With ₦100m Lawsuit, Demands Retraction

His Royal Highness, Igwe Victor Ezekwesili Meniru, the Eze Dunu II of Egwu Achi Kingdom in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, has taken legal action against a Facebook user, Okey Mkpoma, over an allegedly false and defamatory video circulating on social media.

In a formal notice issued through his legal representatives, U.L. Onyejekwe & Co., the revered monarch demanded an immediate retraction and public apology, describing the video—posted on October 25, 2025—as malicious, misleading, and emotionally distressing.

According to the notice, the video delved into a private family matter and levelled allegations against the traditional ruler that were unverified, false, and published without consent or proper investigation. The monarch’s legal team said the viral circulation had exposed him to public ridicule, tarnishing his image within the Dunu Kingdom, the Achi community, Enugu State, and beyond.

The notice issued to the social media user demands the following actions within 14 days:

  • Complete retraction of the defamatory post
  • Removal of the video from all social media platforms
  • A public apology published in three widely circulated newspapers in Enugu State and the Federal Capital Territory
  • Payment of ₦100 million as damages

The legal team warned that failure to comply would leave the monarch with no option but to initiate all lawful steps necessary to protect his reputation and uphold the dignity of the traditional stool.

The development has sparked discussions in the community about the rising impact of social media defamation and the need for responsible online
