Awgu Local Government Joins First Lady of Enugu State to Welcome Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to Enugu (photos)

In a show of solidarity and support, the Chairman of Awgu Local Government, Hon. Uche Okolo, alongside the Enugu State PDP Chairman Dr. Chukwunweike and other top dignitaries, joined the wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, in welcoming the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Enugu State.

The historic event, which took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu, underscored the shared commitment of Nigeria’s First Lady and her Enugu State counterpart to improving the welfare of women, children, and underserved communities.

Dignitaries in attendance included: Hajiya Nana Shettima – Wife of the Vice President Hajiya Laila Barau – Wife of the Deputy President of the Senate Barr. Chioma Uzodinma – First Lady of Imo State Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi – First Lady of Jigawa State Dr. Falmata Zulum – First Lady of Borno State Priscilla Otti – First Lady of Abia State Dr. Claudia Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu – First Lady of Lagos State Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun – First Lady of Ogun State Mrs. Titilayo Adeleke – First Lady of Osun State Dr. Gloria Diri – First Lady of Bayelsa State Scholastica Ben-Sor – Special Advisor to the Benue State Governor on Women Affairs

During the event, Senator Oluremi Tinubu distributed 10,000 professional kits to midwives across the state and provided palliative support to the less privileged, further deepening her legacy of compassion and service.

Awgu Local Government extends its profound appreciation to both First Ladies for their collaborative leadership, particularly in launching the “Free to Shine” campaign—a triple elimination initiative targeting HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis. This bold public health effort is a critical step toward safeguarding the future of Nigerian families.

Also commissioned during the visit was a Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College at GTC, Enugu, a landmark project reflecting the visionary goals of the Enugu State Government to equip youths with relevant skills for national development.

Hon. Uche Okolo reaffirmed the local government’s full support for such life-changing initiatives and applauded Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for providing visionary leadership that continues to transform Enugu State.

“Under Governor Mbah’s administration, Enugu State is experiencing a renaissance in infrastructure, education, and public health,” said Hon. Okolo. “The commissioning of the TVET College at GTC Enugu is a major milestone in equipping our youth with practical skills for the 21st-century economy. Awgu is fully aligned with this forward-looking agenda.”
