Senator Suemo Chia, one of Nigeria’s last surviving First Republic senators, has made a moving public appeal to meet with Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, expressing a deep, personal wish to share his advice before his time comes to an end.
The heartfelt appeal was made during a thanksgiving mass at NKST Church, High Level, Makurdi, held in celebration of the second anniversary of Governor Alia’s administration.
Now in his 80s, the elder statesman was spotted sitting quietly near the church entrance, hoping for a chance to speak with the governor. Unfortunately, tight security and the large crowd of worshippers and supporters made it impossible for him to gain access.
Speaking in a soft yet resolute tone, Senator Chia said, “I cannot see well again. I have come to see Alia. I saw him once, but when I tried to visit him at the Government House, they stopped me—as if I was seeking a political appointment.”
Clarifying his intentions, Chia emphasized that his visit was not politically motivated but driven by a sense of responsibility and a desire to offer guidance. “I want to offer my advice to him before I die,” he said.
Senator Chia has served as an advisor to many past governors of Benue State and remains committed to the state’s progress.
