A senior but unofficial source within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has not been taken to court because investigations into allegations against him are still ongoing.
El-Rufai was reportedly questioned by EFCC operatives from February 9 to February 11, 2026, over alleged financial misappropriation amounting to N432 billion during his tenure as governor between 2015 and 2023.
According to the source, investigators are still examining documents and compiling evidence before deciding on the next legal steps. The official stressed that the delay in filing charges should not be seen as a withdrawal of the case but rather as part of standard investigative procedures.
“The reason he has not been charged is that investigations have not been concluded. Once we complete the process, appropriate legal action will follow,” the source stated, adding that the former governor was granted bail last Wednesday.
Although specific details of the allegations remain undisclosed, the matter has drawn significant public attention, especially in light of El-Rufai’s recent legal action against the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), as well as reports concerning his health and claims that he was denied access to his wife while in custody.
Attempts to obtain official confirmation from the EFCC were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
