EFCC Restitutes Over ₦200 Million in Assets to Fraud Victim After Conviction of Fake Spiritualist

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has handed over three properties, two vehicles, and the sum of ₦1.1 million recovered as proceeds of crime from a convicted fake spiritualist and fraudster, Fatai Olalere Alli, also known as Baba Abore or Baba Osun, to a victim of fraud, Mr. Daniel Babatunde Attiogbe.

The handover was conducted by the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I), Hauwa Garba Ringim, on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman, at the Directorate’s Conference Hall in Ibadan.

According to the EFCC, the recovered assets were released to the victim following a court order mandating restitution.

The recovered properties include:

  • A five-bedroom duplex with an adjoining three-bedroom bungalow situated at Kasumu Village, Odo-Ona Elewe, Ibadan.
  • A bungalow consisting of two three-bedroom flats located at Plot 182, Block D, Lapiti Layout, Akanran Road, Amuloko, Ibadan.
  • A three-bedroom bungalow located at Idi Ayunre Village, Oluyole Local Government Area, Ibadan.

The vehicles handed over include:

  • A grey Honda Pilot SUV with chassis number 2HKY18414H621545 and registration number LND 696 CK.
  • A Toyota Corolla Saloon with chassis number 2T1BU40E49C142502.

Speaking during the handover, Mr. Olukoyede emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and enforcing court orders.

“Obeying court orders is mandatory, and as an agency of the Federal Government, we understand the importance of this. This exercise demonstrates that the EFCC operates strictly within the law,” he stated.

“It also reassures Nigerians of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice. The EFCC will continue to combat economic and financial crimes head-on and ensure that those who tarnish the image of this country through fraudulent activities are brought to justice.”

Receiving the documents, Mr. Attiogbe expressed profound gratitude to the EFCC for its professionalism and commitment to justice.

“I want to sincerely thank the EFCC, especially the Ibadan Zonal Office, for their dedication to the fight against corruption. I almost gave up, but the EFCC rekindled my hope. Having submitted my petition years ago, I am overwhelmed to see justice finally served,” he said.

According to the EFCC, the restitution followed a final forfeiture order issued by Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan on November 13, 2024.

The case, which began in 2019, involved Fatai Olalere Alli and members of his syndicate, who defrauded Attiogbe of over ₦200 million under the guise of performing spiritual cleansing to avert a vision of untimely death.

Alli was initially charged with 33 counts of fraud, later amended to a single count during trial. He was convicted, sentenced to three years imprisonment, and ordered to sign an undertaking with the Department of State Services (DSS) pledging good behavior and abstention from any future criminal activity.
