D’Tigress Arrive Abuja to Hero’s Welcome After Historic 5th Straight AfroBasket Title

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, touched down in Abuja on Monday afternoon to a warm welcome after their record-breaking victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

 

The team, who made history by becoming the first African nation to win five consecutive AfroBasket titles, arrived at the private wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 2:00 p.m., following their departure from Abidjan at 10:00 a.m. via two chartered flights.

 

Up next for the victorious squad is an official reception at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to personally receive and commend the team and its officials for their remarkable achievement.

 

D’Tigress sealed their fifth straight title on Sunday night, defeating Mali in a hard-fought final that showcased resilience, teamwork, and championship spirit.
