A viral video has emerged showing operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly rough-handling Patrick Aghamba, the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development.
The footage, shared on Sunday by Uche Nworah, Special Adviser on General Duties to the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, depicts several DSS officers grappling with the commissioner, with one officer visibly punching him in the head.
According to Nworah, Aghamba had allegedly blocked the entrance to the Onitsha General Hospital, preventing DSS personnel and others from entering the facility. The reasons for his action remain unclear.
While describing the commissioner’s conduct as regrettable, Nworah also condemned the use of force by the DSS officers. “It raises concerns about what could have happened if they had injured Hon. Aghamba,” he said.
The video has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the behaviour of the security operatives and calling for accountability.
As of the time of reporting, the DSS has not issued an official statement on the incident.
