Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin Urges Prayers for Global Peace, Commends Tinubu’s Economic, Security Efforts

Barau I. Jibrin has called on Muslims to continue praying for global peace, cautioning that ongoing tensions in the Middle East are contributing to economic pressures worldwide.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, to mark the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Senator Jibrin congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan, following the Sultanate Council’s declaration of Friday, March 20, 2026, as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH.

He encouraged the Muslim community to uphold the values of piety, sacrifice, and compassion learned during the holy month. He also highlighted the global impact of tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, noting the resulting price shocks affecting economies, including Nigeria’s.

Jibrin commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to stabilise the nation’s economy through reforms and policy interventions. He further praised the President’s management of security challenges, particularly the fight against insurgency and banditry, urging citizens to support the administration’s initiatives.

He expressed optimism that President Tinubu’s directive for security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri in response to recent terrorist attacks would help neutralise criminal elements. On the economy, Jibrin noted that the 2026 budget, currently under consideration by the National Assembly, would address infrastructure gaps and other national priorities once passed and implemented.

The Deputy Senate President also called on Muslims to extend charity and kindness beyond the festive period. “Glory be to Allah SWT for the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan. Let us spread love and support those in need during and after the celebrations,” he said.

As part of his festive outreach, Jibrin disclosed that he had disbursed ₦157 million to constituents across the 13 local government areas of Kano North Senatorial District. Additionally, over 60,000 bags of food items have been distributed across Kano North and other parts of Kano State during the Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr period to support vulnerable communities.
