Denver Teacher Arrested After Admitting Sexual Relationship with 14-Year-Old Student

Teresa Whalin, a 28-year-old health teacher in suburban Denver, allegedly admitted to cops that she’d been in a s£xual relationship with the student , as well as exchanging nud£ photos and making fake phone numbers to anonymously call him, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Denver Post.

The boy, who had been cutting himself while struggling with his mental health, was 12 years his teacher’s junior, according to the documents, suggesting he was around 14 when they started having s£x in April 2023.

The confused student described their relationship as “dating,” saying he and his teacher exchanged racy Snapchat messages, went out to eat and spent time together in her classroom at Ranch View Middle School in Highlands Ranch.

But the boy eventually cut off contact and the teacher started stalking him because she “struggled with the breakup,” according to the affidavit.

She would drive around the student’s home and show up on his route to and from school, scaring him enough that he felt forced to take different routes or get rides with friends’ families, the documents said.

The student revealed the s£xual relationship to a school counselor on Monday, Nov. 10, who in turn notified authorities. Whalin was arrested later that day, according to the Denver Post.

During an interview with police, Whalin allegedly confessed to being in a s£xual relationship with the student and exchanging nud£ photos. She also admitted making fake phone numbers to anonymously contact him, claiming that she thought it would make the teen turn to her for help.

She is charged with s£xual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child and stalking, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

She was booked at the Douglas County Detention Center where she’s being held on a $50,000 bond.

Whalin has been employed by the Douglas County School District since July 2021.

She has been placed on administrative leave, according to a letter sent to parents by Ranch View principal Erin Kyllo.

“We are working to find a long-term substitute teacher for our impacted students,” Kyllo wrote. “In the meantime, the entire Ranch View Middle School administrative team will support our students and ensure learning continues.”
