The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reassured Nigerians that the Army under his leadership will intensify operations to secure Katsina State and the country at large from persistent security threats.
Oluyede gave the assurance on Thursday during a visit to the Acting Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Faruk Lawal Jobe, at the Government House, where he also commiserated with the government and people of the state over recent banditry attacks.
“Immediate and improved measures are to be put in place to ensure such unfortunate incidents, which resulted in the loss of lives and property, do not reoccur,” the Army Chief said. He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies in the collective effort to defeat banditry and make Nigeria safer.
In response, Acting Governor Jobe expressed appreciation for the Army Chief’s visit and pledged the state government’s continued support to the military and other security agencies. He noted Katsina’s substantial investment in security and vowed to sustain such interventions, while commending President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to tackling insecurity nationwide.
As part of his three-day operational tour of Katsina under 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation Fasin Yamma, Oluyede received a security briefing at Natsinta Barracks from the Commander, 17 Brigade, Brigadier General B. O. Omopariola, on ongoing operations, challenges, and strategies to improve security in the state.
The COAS also visited Forward Operating Bases at Federal University Dutsinma, Safana, and Malumfashi, where he charged soldiers to remain steadfast, intensify operations, and decisively deal with bandits and other criminal groups.
He praised the troops for their efforts and assured them of enhanced logistics and welfare support to sustain effective operations.
