On August 30, 2025, the City Girls’ Alumni 1991 set gathered at Top Rank Hotel, Enugu, for their maiden homecoming celebration, marking 34 years of shared friendship, impact, and legacy. The event was held under the theme “Together Again: Celebrating our journey and shaping our future.”
In her welcome address, Ambassador Obioma Helen Uzoigwe, host of the event and founder of the Coach for Hope Foundation, thanked the 1991 Alumni for their unwavering support, commitment, and belief in the values they had built together. She noted that the homecoming was not only about memories but also about impact and legacy.
The Chief Host, Dame Ugochi Madueke, Hon. Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Enugu State, charged the women to always love and respect their husbands while upholding unity, peace, and love. Similarly, Elder Achuba Simon, former Deputy Governor of Kogi State and Chairman of the occasion, urged the women to remain united and continue building strong bonds of love and friendship.
The current Principal of City Girls’ Secondary School, in her remarks, expressed deep appreciation for the set’s continuous contributions to the school, including welfare programs, classroom renovations, and other goodwill projects.
As part of the day’s activities, Ngozi Ogbu delivered a health talk on the importance of regular blood pressure checks, explaining its causes and preventive measures. Dr. Chidiebere Igbokwe, a motivational speaker, also expounded on the event’s theme, stressing the need for informed decision-making, mutual support, and continuous adaptation. “Keep learning and adapting to changes, shape lives with empowerment,” he urged.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Onyeoma, one of the foundation teachers of City Girls’ Secondary School and mentor to the 1991 set, expressed gratitude for being invited to the occasion. She prayed for their continued success and unity.
On the red carpet, Amb. Obioma Helen Uzoigwe revealed in an interview with UGAMA TV that she took up the leadership mantle in January 2025, and together with her executives, decided to host the maiden homecoming as a means of creating stronger physical bonds, empowering members, and lifting others from lower to higher levels of life. She also described the Coach for Hope Foundation as her mother’s legacy, designed to ensure inclusiveness and support for all.
Lady Rosemary Chiugo Orji, President General of City Girls’ Secondary School, in her interview, described the gathering as a reflection of grace and good leadership. On his part, Elder Achuba Simon, during his red carpet remarks, emphasized the importance of unity and togetherness, noting that secondary school bonds remain invaluable for shaping brighter futures.
Other members of the 1991 Alumni also shared their joy. Mrs. Ijeom Chima, a fashion designer, proudly described her set as “one of the most wonderful and best sets City Girls’ Secondary School has ever produced.”
The maiden homecoming of the City Girls’ Alumni 1991 set was more than a reunion, it was a celebration of unity, impact, and empowerment. With strong leadership, deep camaraderie, and a commitment to community development, the event not only rekindled old memories but also charted a purposeful path toward shaping a brighter and more impactful future together.
