“Christmas Message of Hope: Awgu Council Chairman Okolo Salutes Ndi Awgu, Hails Gov. Mbah’s Transformational Strides”

The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has extended warm Christmas greetings to Ndi Awgu, urging residents to embrace the spirit of love, unity, and compassion that defines the season.

In a goodwill message conveyed through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, Hon. Okolo encouraged the people of Awgu to use the festive period to make positive differences in their communities and to remain their brothers’ keepers. He also advised residents to celebrate responsibly, cautioning against late-night outings and warning strongly against drinking and driving to ensure a safe and peaceful Christmas season.

The Awgu Council Chairman also used the occasion to commend the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for what he described as radical infrastructural development and visionary leadership that have repositioned the state on the path of sustainable growth.

According to Hon. Okolo, Governor Mbah’s leadership has provided the enabling environment for local governments to thrive and deliver tangible development at the grassroots.

“Governor Mbah has turned Enugu into a construction site, and we at the grassroots are replicating that same energy. Enugu State is becoming the pride of the South East—a hub of development, innovation, and peace. We will continue to complement his vision through inclusive governance and people-driven development,” the Chairman affirmed.

Reflecting on his administration’s journey so far, Hon. Okolo highlighted several milestones recorded within his first year in office. He cited the Awgu Water for All Initiative, which has delivered over 25 solar-powered boreholes across communities, significantly easing access to clean and sustainable water.

He also referenced the ongoing Sexual Harassment and Abuse Response Centre, the first of its kind in Enugu State, as well as major road infrastructure projects, including the nearly completed 3.6km Agbogugu Access Road leading to the Smart Green School, the ongoing 3.5km Awgu–Ugwueme Road project, and the completed and commissioned 1.5km Awgu–Ndeaboh Road.

Other achievements outlined include the commissioning of 2,000 SatoPan toilets as part of efforts to end open defecation, the launch of 600 solar street lights—20 in each of Awgu’s 25 communities—to enhance security and night-time visibility, and the renovation of the Awgu Police Division to strengthen security operations within the LGA.

As Ndi Awgu celebrate Christmas, Hon. Okolo reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the tempo of development and service delivery, assuring residents that the new year will usher in even greater progress for the local government.

He concluded by wishing all families in Awgu a peaceful, joyful, and safe Christmas, filled with love, goodwill, and renewed hope.
