Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has responded to criticism surrounding his reported purchase of a custom one-of-one Venuum Widebody Bugatti Chiron valued at about ₦9 billion.
The Afrobeats star came under fire after news of the luxury car surfaced, with some critics accusing him of extravagant spending instead of investing in businesses or supporting charitable causes. Others questioned the decision to import such an exotic vehicle into Nigeria, citing the country’s poor road infrastructure.
Burna Boy addressed the criticism during his performance at the Afronation concert in Portugal on Friday night, delivering a freestyle in response to those questioning his purchase.
“I buy Bugatti, dem ask which road I go drive am? No be today we dey do road like Julius Berger,” he rapped.
The latest controversy comes months after Burna Boy made headlines over claims by socialite Sophia Egbueje, who alleged that the singer failed to fulfil a promise to buy her a Lamborghini.
While Burna Boy neither confirmed nor denied the allegation, he appeared to reference the controversy in his song No Do, where he mocked the situation.
Sophia Egbueje later announced that she had purchased the Lamborghini herself, bringing the widely publicised controversy to a close.
