The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Katsina on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of his final burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
The remains, draped in the national colours, touched down at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport at exactly 1:59 p.m. aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft.
Accompanying the late president’s body were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and some family members.
Personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces solemnly carried the body off the aircraft, while dignitaries, including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other state officials, were present at the airport to receive it.
The former president, who passed away at the age of 82 in a London clinic two days earlier, is scheduled to be buried later today in accordance with Islamic rites.
President Bola Tinubu also arrived in Katsina earlier today, alongside other prominent Nigerians, to pay his final respects and attend the burial ceremony.
As the nation bids farewell to a former leader, tributes continue to pour in for Muhammadu Buhari, whose life and legacy will remain a part of Nigeria’s political history. His burial marks the end of an era and a moment of reflection for many across the country.
