British Rapper Dave Sparks Controversy with Lyrics Mocking Nigerian Strikers

Famous British rapper Dave has stirred controversy with a line in one of the songs on his new album, The Boy Who Play The Harp.

On the track titled Chapter 16, Dave compares women who lie about their age to Nigerian football strikers, rapping, “H*es lying about their age like Nigerian strikers.”

The lyric has sparked debate online, with many fans accusing the rapper of making a sweeping generalisation about Nigerian players.

Although Dave was born in the United Kingdom, he has Nigerian roots — his parents are from Edo State. Over the years, he has worked with several Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Wizkid, and most recently, Tems, on his new album.

Age-cheating scandals have been a recurring issue in Nigerian football at various levels, and the country’s U17 men’s team was once disbanded due to widespread age falsification.
