In a momentous ceremony held on June 26, 2025, the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) conferred its prestigious Statesmanship Award on Hon. Uche Joseph Okolo, Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to human capital development, infrastructure, and philanthropy.
The award presentation, part of the Faculty’s 2025 International Conference, was a highlight of the event and drew the attendance of top dignitaries, academia, and community stakeholders. The honor was bestowed as a testament to Hon. Okolo’s tireless dedication to advancing the welfare of the people of Awgu and beyond, through visionary leadership and impactful community programs.
According to the Faculty, Hon. Okolo was selected for the Statesmanship Award based on his “consistent record of grassroots development, empowerment of vulnerable groups, promotion of educational access, and unwavering commitment to inclusive governance.”
Under his leadership, Awgu LGA has witnessed remarkable strides in infrastructure, youth empowerment, and social development initiatives. From road construction and school rehabilitation to healthcare access and economic upliftment, Hon. Okolo has championed policies and programs that improve lives and foster unity.
Receiving the award, Hon. Okolo expressed deep gratitude to the Faculty of Management Sciences and the entire ESUT community. “This award is not just for me, but for the people of Awgu whom I serve daily with dedication. I am inspired by this recognition to continue pushing for good governance, inclusive growth, and a better future for our communities,” he said.
He further commended ESUT for its role in shaping future leaders and upholding the ideals of public service through academic excellence and civic engagement.
