Botswana Government denies declaring public holiday for Arsenal fans after Premier League win

The Government of Botswana has dismissed a viral communique claiming it declared a public holiday for Arsenal fans to honour the new English Premier League champion.

The communique bearing official falsely attributed to President Duma Boko, had announced that a public holiday would be observed on Wednesday, May 20, to allow fans to celebrate Arsenal’s feat after 22 years.

The statement purported to recognise the loyalty, passion and unwavering support of Arsenal fans over the years.

It urged the fans to take the day off work and celebrate, calling on employers to “foster a ”spirit of unity”

The government in a post on X, disowned the communique, flagging it as a fake.

“No, there is no holiday for Arsenal fans,” the post reads.
