Nigerian Afrobeats singer BNXN, born Daniel Benson, has weighed in on the long-running debate over whether musicians or athletes earn more, saying professional basketball players, particularly those in the NBA, are significantly wealthier than most Nigerian artists.
Speaking during a recent livestream with streamer Ojo, the ‘Finesse’ hitmaker said his friendships with several NBA players have given him firsthand insight into the financial gap between top athletes and musicians.
According to BNXN, while footballers are widely recognised for their huge earnings, NBA players also command enormous wealth that most Afrobeats stars cannot match.
He cited Jaylen Brown as an example, describing the NBA star’s financial status as evidence of the vast earning power of elite basketball players.
The singer concluded that, in terms of earnings, Afrobeats artists are not on the same financial level as top professional athletes.
