The NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, has commended a corps member, Okolie Silas Chukwuebuka, for donating computers to Padopads Harmony Secondary School, Highlevel Makurdi, as part of his Personal Community Development Project (PCDP).
Mrs. Garba, who was represented at the event by Ms. Stella Beulah Gokum, described the project as a laudable initiative that reflects the true spirit of community service. She urged other corps members in the state to emulate Okolie’s exemplary dedication to his host community.
In her remarks, the State Coordinator emphasized that the Community Development Service (CDS) platform was designed to give corps members the opportunity to impact positively on their host communities. She praised Okolie for going beyond expectations by addressing both educational and financial challenges faced by students.
At the presentation ceremony, Okolie Silas Chukwuebuka, with NYSC state code BN/24C/0331, handed over a system unit, a white projection flex banner, and two desktop computers to the school. He noted that the donation was aimed at complementing government efforts in providing basic educational facilities, while also helping students develop interest in digital literacy.
“I want to help these young students have the tools they need to excel in their academic pursuits. The goal is to ensure that every child in Padopads becomes familiar with technology,” he said.
Okolie further revealed that he had earlier organized a Digital Literacy Training Program in the school, where participants were issued certificates of participation. In addition, through the Elite Leadership Foundation, he facilitated the payment of NECO fees for six indigent students drawn from Padopads Harmony Secondary School and Alex Gaadi Comprehensive School, worth over ₦200,000.
The Principal of Padopads Harmony Secondary School, Mrs. Ahura Regina, expressed appreciation to the corps member, noting that the donation would go a long way in preparing students for the 2026 external examinations as well as the ICT-based curriculum recently introduced into schools.
“When he first visited the school, I never knew he would do so much. From the NECO scholarship to the digital literacy training and now the donation of computers, he has fulfilled all his promises. We are deeply grateful,” she said.
Highlight of the event was the vote of thanks delivered by Okile Rhoda, a student of the school, who promised on behalf of her colleagues to make judicious use of the facilities provided to enhance their learning.
