Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Mr. Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Aondona was reportedly apprehended over serious allegations, including sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia ordered Aondona’s immediate and indefinite suspension, pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation.
Describing the allegations as “deeply troubling,” the governor reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for criminal or unethical behavior among public officials.
“This administration was elected to serve with integrity and discipline,” the statement read. “Any official involved in acts capable of tarnishing the image of government or eroding public trust will be held accountable.”
Governor Alia also reaffirmed his commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and high ethical standards in public service. He emphasized his government’s dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups.
He further assured of his administration’s full cooperation with law enforcement agencies and made it clear that the suspended aide must face the legal process without any interference from the state government.
