Bauchi nursing mother regains freedom after N1.5m ransom

Kidnappers have released a nursing mother, Rukayyat Odedoyin, from their custody after the payment of N1.5m ransom.

This is coming about 10 days after she was kidnapped by the gunmen.

UGAMATV had reported that on September 17, 2021, pandemonium broke out in Birshin Fulani, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis when gunmen invaded the area and allegedly kidnapped a nursing mother known as Mrs Rukayyat Odedoyin.

According to neighbours, the kidnappers who were about 10 in number invaded the area at about 12am and forced themselves into the building by breaking the main door before gaining entrance into the house.

Her abduction sparked protest where angry residents took to the street blocking roads and throwing bashings to Police and government for “failing” to protect them.

Husband of the nursing mother, Engr Surajudden Odedoyin, confirmed the release of his wife while speaking to journalists in a telephone interview on Monday.

He said the sum of N1.5 million was given to the abductors before they released his wife

He said: “I received her this (Monday) morning after N1.5 million ransom was paid to the kidnappers.

“She is currently with me and I will take her to the hospital for a medical check-up.”

He said “Rukayyat is psychologically traumatized following the kidnapped incident because it was a difficult moment for her throughout the period of captivity.

“She was sleeping in the bush under humiliating conditions because whether it was raining or sunny, she was kept outside throughout her stay with the kidnappers.”

He said the kidnap of his wife was equally a horrifying moment in his lifetime.

“It’s very difficult to even explain or describe how horrifying it is for me and the family, but we give glory to God now that she is back with us”, he added.
