The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to embark on a nationwide rally on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, to press home its long-standing demands from the Federal Government.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), ASUU Zonal Coordinator, Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, said the rallies mark the union’s first decisive response to what it described as government’s continued inaction.
Egbedokun disclosed that the rallies would hold simultaneously across universities nationwide, with academic activities suspended during the demonstrations.
According to him, the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) has given the Federal Government until its scheduled meeting on August 28, 2025, to respond to their demands, after which ASUU will decide its next line of action.
“For over two years, we have kept faith with dialogue and refrained from strikes, but our patience has reached its limit. If the government continues to play games with the future of our universities, then it must bear the consequences of the storm that will follow,” Egbedokun warned.
The rallies are expected to draw participation from ASUU chapters across the country, signaling renewed tension between the union and the government.
