Chief Emmanuel Obiajulu Anosike, a former senator who represented Anambra North in the National Assembly, has been elected Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anosike emerged through a consensus arrangement during the party’s state congress held in Awka, the Anambra State capital. Alongside him, Chief J.C. Okeke was elected Vice Chairman, while Chief Obi Okpala assumed the position of State Secretary.
Declaring the outcome of the exercise, the Chairman of the Anambra State Congress Committee and Returning Officer, Rear Admiral William Kayode (rtd), affirmed that the congress was conducted in accordance with Articles 20 and 14 of the APC constitution, which provide for the adoption of consensus in electing party officers.
“I, Rear Admiral William Kayode (rtd), Chairman of the Congress Committee and Returning Officer for Anambra State, hereby declare that the congress was free, fair, and credible. In line with the provisions of Articles 20 and 14 of our constitution, Senator Emmanuel Anosike and other members of the State Executive Committee are duly elected and returned,” he stated.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Congress Harmonisation Committee and Director-General of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife, explained that the adoption of a “basketing” and consensus model was designed to produce capable and competent leaders committed to rebuilding and strengthening the party in the state.
She noted that extensive consultations were carried out at the ward and local government levels to ensure inclusiveness and compliance with constitutional provisions. According to her, the era of imposing party executives without due regard for competence and capacity has come to an end.
Following the successful congress, the immediate past State Executive Committee led by Chief Basil Ejidike was formally dissolved. The dissolution came after a motion moved by Chief Olisa Metuh and seconded by Dr Onuora Okonkwo, which was adopted through a voice vote.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Anosike described his emergence as a call to duty and pledged to reposition the APC in Anambra State. He promised an inclusive leadership style that would accommodate all stakeholders and foster unity within the party.
“We will ensure that every member is carried along in the affairs of the party. This marks a new beginning for the APC in Anambra State,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his leadership role in coordinating the party’s affairs in the South-East region. Anosike further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his valedictory remarks, Chief Ejidike, who led the party in the state for seven years, called on members to support the new executive committee and expressed optimism that the APC would continue to grow stronger under its new leadership.
