Angry mob lynches 30-year-old man in Edo for killing his father over failure to provide food

Angry mob has lynched a 30-year-old man, identified as Spiro Odese, for k!lling his father following an altercation over a lack of food in Edo State.

 

 

 

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Ikhe-khe Uhumwenbho community in Ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area of the state.

 

 

 

It was gathered that the deceased, identified as Friday Odese, a farmer, was butchered by his son for not being able to provide food for him.

 

 

 

According to a source in the community, the son has demanded for food and the father told him that there was none in the house as he couldn’t access the farm to harvest cassava due to gunmen that have taken over the forests in the area.

 

 

 

The response reportedly led to an altercation and in the process, the son picked up a cutlass and attacked his father, k!lling him on the spot.

 

 

 

The source added that a woman who saw the attack raised an alarm and called for help.

 

 

 

The suspect also attacked a neighbour who attempted to rescue the farmer, inflicting him with severe injuries.

 

 

 

The injured man is currently in the intensive care unit in an undisclosed hospital.

 

 

 

Angered by the development, a mob apprehended Spiro, who was trying to escape and lynched him.
