The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has approved the creation of 15 new dioceses across the country, expanding its existing network of 161 dioceses.
The decision was reached on Thursday during the ongoing Standing Committee Meeting in Ekiti State, which brought together all bishops, clergymen, and lay delegates from across the Communion.
According to the resolution, five of the new dioceses will function as full-fledged dioceses, while ten will operate as missionary dioceses to enhance evangelism and pastoral care in their regions.
The 5 Full-Fledged Dioceses
1. Ekiti South Diocese – carved out of Ekiti Diocese
2. Kalabari Diocese – created from Niger Delta Diocese
3. Lagos South West Diocese – from Lagos West Diocese
4. Omoku Diocese – from Ahoada Diocese
5. Ozoro Diocese – from Oleh Diocese
The 10 Missionary Dioceses
1. Eket Diocese – from Uyo Diocese

3. Ikom Diocese – from Calabar Diocese
4. Keffi Diocese – from Kubwa and Lafia Dioceses

7. Oyo South Diocese – from Oyo Diocese
8. Oyun Diocese – from Kwara Diocese
9. Takum Diocese – from Jalingo Diocese

Church leaders say the creation of these dioceses is aimed at bringing the Anglican mission closer to the grassroots, strengthening evangelistic outreach, and ensuring more effective administration across Nigeria’s growing Anglican community.
The newly approved dioceses will soon begin the process of appointing bishops and setting up administrative structures to commence full operations.
