The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Governor Chukwuma Soludo over his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu, describing it as a desperate political move in the run-up to the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
In a statement issued by Okechukwu Modebe, spokesperson for the Nicholas Ukachukwu/Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, the APC dismissed Soludo’s meeting with the president at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as “the last kick of a dying horse” and a publicity stunt aimed at reviving his waning influence.
“This latest attempt to posture for the cameras with Mr President cannot erase four years of misgovernance, disconnection from the grassroots, and political miscalculations,” the statement read. “Parading such meetings as endorsements insults the intelligence of Anambra voters.”
Soludo, a prominent member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), met Tinubu on Tuesday and pledged his support for the president’s re-election in 2027. The APC alleged that the visit was being misrepresented as a political endorsement that “does not exist.”
Modebe said the APC remained focused on winning both the November governorship election and the August 16 Anambra South senatorial re-run. He described the party’s senatorial candidate, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, as “a political iron-gate” capable of exposing APGA’s declining popularity in the state.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure free and fair polls, warning that “the days of business-as-usual in Anambra politics are over.”
Meanwhile, President Tinubu took a different tone, praising Soludo in a social media post on Wednesday.
“It was a pleasure to welcome my friend of over two decades and the Governor of Anambra State, Governor Charles Soludo, to the Aso Villa yesterday,” Tinubu wrote.
The president revealed that their discussions covered ongoing reforms, security issues, and strategies to create inclusive opportunities for Nigerian youths.
“We share a firm belief that all who profess progressivism must work together to deepen our democracy, strengthen security, and transform our economy,” Tinubu said. “We will continue to take a bet on our dear country, Nigeria, to ensure sustainable and shared prosperity for the future.”
The political exchanges come as parties intensify campaigns ahead of the highly anticipated Anambra governorship election in November.
