Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted his team conceded goals they should have prevented in Sunday’s 3–0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
City took the lead through a Phil Foden header, before Erling Haaland struck twice in the second half to seal a dominant win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Amorim expressed frustration over United’s defending and missed opportunities on the counter.
“If you look at the goals, we can avoid those goals. That was the biggest difference. We can do better, especially the second goal,” he said.
Amorim noted that United failed to capitalise on their own transitions, while City punished them.
“In the second half they did better in transition and we suffered in that moment.
The third goal came from a lack of quality in the connection people didn’t know who was going to the ball and the guy was free to score.
The first one, he is in the middle of four guys and we can be more aggressive in that moment.”
The Portuguese coach stressed that United needed a near-perfect performance in such high-stakes matches.
“In these kinds of games, we need to be perfect and in this game we were not.
The frustration is always the same because with the amount of chances we need to score goals. We need to work on a lot of things for the next game.”
