In another historic step toward ending water scarcity in Awgu Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has extended the Awgu Water-for-All Initiative to Ugwueme and Nkwe communities in Anikenano and Ugwueme Ward.
With drilling works now underway, this expansion brings the tally of completed and ongoing solar-powered boreholes to 20 across 20 communities, reaffirming Hon. Okolo’s commitment to ensuring clean and sustainable water for every household in Awgu.
Speaking through his Office of Special Adviser General Media and Publicity, Hon. Okolo emphasized that the initiative is in direct alignment with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s inclusive development agenda, which prioritizes equitable access to essential services for all communities in Enugu State.
“Clean and safe water should never be a privilege but a basic right. By extending this project to Ugwueme and Nkwe, we are not only providing water but also restoring dignity, promoting good health, and driving rural transformation,” Hon. Okolo stated.
This milestone follows closely on the heels of another landmark project — the flag-off of the 3.5km Awgu–Ugwueme Road Project on August 23, 2025. The road, which links to the Ugwueme Smart Green School, is expected to ease transportation, boost trade, and enhance educational access, further underscoring Hon. Okolo’s vision for grassroots development.
Community leaders and residents of Ugwueme and Nkwe have lauded the Chairman’s people-centered governance, describing the borehole project as “a lifeline” that will significantly improve hygiene, public health, and daily living conditions.
With the successful rollout of 20 solar-powered boreholes and major infrastructural projects in motion, Hon. Okolo continues to demonstrate that Awgu LGA is on the path of inclusive growth, sustainable development, and accountable leadership — all in synergy with Governor Mbah’s transformative vision for Enugu State.
