_Okolo Meets Awgu LGA Women Leaders, Reaffirms Commitment to Grassroots Inclusion_
The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has held a strategic engagement session with women leaders across the council area, reinforcing his administration’s alignment with Governor Peter Mbah’s grassroots-inclusive governance model.
The high-level meeting took place on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Awgu Local Government Council Headquarters, and brought together chairpersons, secretaries of women organisations, village women groups, cultural groups, and community women leaders who converged to deepen partnership with the council and strengthen their role in local governance.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Okolo expressed gratitude to God for the success of the meeting and commended Governor Mbah for his unwavering commitment to spreading development across every community in Enugu State.
“I am extremely happy for your turnout the day we joined APC. Our goal is to connect Awgu to the centre and secure our dividend from the centre,” the chairman stated.
He welcomed the leaders of various women groups, noting that their presence reflected the strong representation and unity of Awgu women. He emphasized that the administration’s programmes would only succeed with the active involvement of women.
“Any step we want to take, we need you. We must take it together. The work is for all of us, not one person. Whatever we decide, we must move with one voice. We are not leaving anybody behind,”
Hon. Okolo said.
Hon. Okolo further highlighted the transformational projects of the Enugu State Government, describing Governor Mbah as a visionary leader whose infrastructural strides—spanning Owo, Obeagu, Isu-Awaa, Ugwueme and other communities—have earned widespread support.
As part of his commitment to empowering women, Hon. Okolo pledged financial support and increased participation in women-driven initiatives across the LGA. He also announced that the SPA on Political Matters, Hon. Prince Emeka Uzochukwu, would serve as the liaison between the council and the women groups to ensure seamless communication.
The engagement featured enlightenment sessions on ongoing government projects, policy updates—particularly in health—alongside the distribution of bags of rice, clothing materials and cash gifts, symbolizing the administration’s resolve to promote inclusivity and shared progress.
Speaking on behalf of the women, their leaders praised Hon. Okolo for his consistent support, especially during the 2025 August Meeting where he visited all communities in Awgu, interacted with women and rendered various forms of assistance. They applauded initiatives such as the Awgu Water-for-All Project, solar-powered streetlights, smart toilets aimed at eliminating open defecation, and other interventions that have directly impacted their welfare.
The women also extended appreciation to Governor Mbah for the massive development across Awgu wards, including smart green schools, upgraded primary healthcare centres, road projects, and several ongoing state-led initiatives.
They reaffirmed their confidence in Hon. Okolo’s leadership, noting that Awgu women “are happy with the level of support, visibility, and inclusion the council chairman has given them.”
