Akwa Ibom police begin probe as three sisters die of suspected food poisoning

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of three sisters who died after eating rice.

The sisters identified as Uduak Obong, 30; Blessing Obong, 18; and Uduak Obong 7; who all resided at Obio Etoi, near Nest of Champion International Stadium, were said to have eaten rice together before their death.

A statement on Monday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, said preliminary investigation has indicated that the three ate rice before going to bed the previous night of the incident.

The statement read, “The Command has removed the lifeless bodies and commenced investigation on the cause of death of the three sisters.

“Preliminary findings shows that they ate rice and stew before going to bed the previous night of the sad incident.”

The statement said the state Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has condoled with the deceased family and ordered a discreet investigation while vowing to spare no resources in determining the cause of their death.

The statement further stated that the command also arrested one Samuel Cosmos Akpan in connection with the alleged murder of one Ubong Solomon

Akpan, who was arrested after a report from one Solomon Solomon, a brother to the deceased was said to have stabbed his victim during an altercation on August 7, 2021 at about 10am.

The suspected murderer who has confessed to the crime was arrested at Idah Okpo lane, off Urua road, Uyo by operatives of the ‘A’ Division while the corpse had been deposited in the mortuary.
