The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been urged to retract its invitation and remove the name of Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, from its official X (formerly Twitter) account in connection with allegations of naira abuse.
The appeal was made by Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, Principal Partner at Blessing Agbomhere and Partners, in a letter addressed to EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. A source within the Commission, who disclosed the development on condition of anonymity, confirmed the letter was received in Abuja.
Dr. Agbomhere, who also serves as the South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described the EFCC’s invitation as “unnecessary and baseless,” asserting that Tompolo had committed no offense under Nigerian law.
The EFCC, in a letter dated May 12, 2025, invited Tompolo to appear at its Abuja headquarters on May 19 to answer questions about his alleged involvement in naira abuse during his 54th birthday celebration in April.

In response, Agbomhere contended that there was no evidence showing Tompolo mishandled the national currency. On the contrary, he stated, video footage from the event clearly shows Tompolo gesturing to an individual spraying money to stop the act.
He described the EFCC’s action as a reaction to false narratives propagated by “social media warriors” known for cyberbullying and online harassment, who are attempting to tarnish Tompolo’s image and instigate conflict between him and the Commission.
“Tompolo is a key reason Nigeria’s economy isn’t in total collapse. Through his company, Tantita Security Services, he continues to safeguard critical national assets, particularly oil pipelines that were once routinely vandalized,” Agbomhere emphasized.
He further urged the EFCC to take down the online post linking Tompolo to the alleged naira abuse, noting that the Commission should not succumb to pressure from “idle minds who thrive on misinformation.”
“Chief Tompolo is a law-abiding citizen and a true patriot who has made significant sacrifices to protect Nigeria’s economic interests, especially in the Niger Delta. It is inconceivable that he would act against the same system he is committed to defending,” the letter reads in part.
Dr. Agbomhere also commended the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to curb naira abuse and prosecute offenders, urging the Commission to exercise fairness and discretion in Tompolo’s case.
“As you continue your fight against financial crimes and the abuse of our national currency, we respectfully appeal for a reassessment of this situation and a withdrawal of the invitation extended to our client,” he concluded.
