The Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, has appointed Professor Daniel C. Nwachukwu as the 4th Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

 

The appointment was announced on Saturday following a rigorous, transparent, and highly competitive selection process that involved over 40 distinguished professors.

 

Professor Nwachukwu is a renowned Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC). He was elected Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNEC in 2023.

 

He earned his first degree in Human Physiology from the University of Lagos in 1995, obtained his Master’s degree from the University of Benin in 1997, and completed his PhD in 2012.

 

With over 26 years of academic experience, Prof. Nwachukwu joined the services of the University of Nigeria in July 1999 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2016. He was the 201st Inaugural Lecturer of the University of Nigeria, where he delivered a lecture on the potency of zobo drink in the management of high blood pressure at the Enugu Campus on March 7, 2024.

 

A native of Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Prof. Nwachukwu is married with children. His research interests span Physiology, Flavonoids, Hypertension, Saponins, Hepatotoxicity, Antihypertensive studies, and Alkaloids. He has published extensively in reputable journals and has supervised numerous postgraduate students.

 

His appointment is widely seen as a significant milestone for AE-FUNAI as the university looks forward to a new era of academic excellence and institutional growth.
