The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of using the burial ceremony of late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a public relations stunt to salvage his administration’s image.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC condemned what it described as an attempt to exploit Buhari’s death for political gain.
According to the statement, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) tribute session and the presence of Buhari’s son, Yusuf Buhari, were part of a “calculated PR maneuver by an unpopular government.”
The party criticized Tinubu’s administration for consistently blaming Buhari over the past year for Nigeria’s economic difficulties, only to suddenly make a dramatic shift in tone following his death — a move the ADC says is aimed at regaining sympathy, especially in the northern region and among Buhari’s loyalists.
“Grief is not a campaign strategy,” the ADC asserted.
The party further stated that no public relations gimmick could rescue what it described as a government that has “acted like an army of occupation” over the last two years.
“We are confident that Nigerians can see through their grand deceit,” the statement concluded.
