Human rights activist Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu Shinkafi has issued a stern warning to Mustapha Ja’afaru Kaura, spokesman to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, over comments deemed inciting and disrespectful towards the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, and Senator AbdulAzeez Yari.
Dr. Shinkafi, in a public statement, accused Kaura of engaging in character assassination and gave him a seven-day ultimatum to issue a written apology or face legal consequences.
“We will not stand by and allow the Governor’s spokesman to insult respected statesmen who have served Zamfara as governors and are currently serving the nation in other capacities,” Shinkafi declared.
He emphasized that the actions of the spokesman were not only inappropriate but also disrespectful to leaders who continue to contribute to the development of the state and the country. “What Kaura did is unacceptable in a civilized society. Our elders deserve respect for their service and sacrifices. His statement is not just irresponsible, it’s a direct attack on the dignity of elder statesmen,” he said.
Shinkafi added that he believes Governor Lawal did not authorize such comments and described the incident as an unfortunate misstep by a government representative. He reaffirmed his commitment to taking legal steps if no apology is issued, stating that such conduct should not be tolerated or repeated in Zamfara State.
The development has sparked political tension in the state, with many calling for greater decorum and mutual respect among political figures and their spokespersons.
