A Legacy Cast in Concrete: Amaozalla Egede Unveils Odunejeogu Civic Center in Honour of Late High Chief Ezejiofor Igwe

Egede, Udi LGA — The Amaozalla Egede community on Friday, December 27, 2025, recorded a defining moment in its developmental journey with the official unveiling of the Amaozalla Odunejeogu Civic Center, a landmark edifice dedicated to the enduring legacy of the late High Chief Christopher Gerald Ezejiofor Igwe (Akunecheibe I of Egede).

The event, organised by the Amaozalla Egede Welfare Union, attracted a broad spectrum of stakeholders including traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth groups, as well as indigenes and residents of Egede, underscoring the deep communal significance of the project.

Speaking during the unveiling, the Traditional Ruler of Egede, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. Osita Ike Okwesilili, described the civic center as a powerful symbol of unity, progress, and collective responsibility. He commended the Okpata Ozuruora na Amaozalla Egede for his resilience and unwavering commitment, noting that his leadership played a critical role in the successful completion of the project.

According to the monarch, the civic center stands as evidence of what a united community can achieve through selfless service and shared vision. He urged residents to utilize the facility responsibly as a platform for peacebuilding, dialogue, and sustainable development.

Also speaking, Akajioffor Ozo emphasized the need for continuity in community-driven projects, stressing that unity remains the backbone of meaningful development. In the same vein, the Mayor of Egede, Chief Sir Anayo Ekwueme, described the civic center as a landmark achievement that would strengthen grassroots administration and enhance communal interactions.

The Women Leader, Oriaku Florence Omume, lauded the welfare union and project drivers, noting that the facility would provide a conducive environment for women’s meetings, empowerment programmes, and social engagements, thereby promoting inclusive participation in community affairs.

The ceremony featured prayers, goodwill messages, and moving tributes in honour of the late High Chief Ezejiofor Igwe, whose life of service, leadership, and commitment to the progress of Egede community continues to inspire generations.

Designed as a hub for community meetings, cultural activities, and developmental initiatives, the Amaozalla Odunejeogu Civic Center is expected to play a strategic role in fostering unity, preserving heritage, and accelerating sustainable growth in Amaozalla Egede and its environs.
