President Bola Tinubu has deployed a high-level presidential delegation to Oyo State following the abduction of 46 pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in the state.
The delegation, led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, arrived in Ogbomoso on Sunday and is proceeding to Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire and Ogbomosho Local Government Areas, where the kidnappings occurred.
Also on the delegation are the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe; and Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
The visit follows the reported invasion of Baptist Nursery and Primary Schools in the affected communities by armed men, who allegedly abducted about 46 pupils and teachers in simultaneous attacks.
Confirming the development in a post on X, Sunday Dare said the federal government had intensified efforts to secure the release of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to him, President Tinubu immediately activated a series of coordinated security operations following reports of the incident.
“The President has set in motion a series of coordinated efforts aimed at rescuing the victims and ensuring the arrest of those responsible for the attacks,” Dare stated.
The presidential delegation is expected to assess the situation firsthand, engage local authorities and community leaders, and oversee ongoing rescue operations as security agencies intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and education stakeholders, with calls for stronger security measures to protect schools and vulnerable communities from criminal attacks.
