Intensive Israeli airstrikes targeted the Palestinian city of Khan Younis overnight as Israel pressed forward with its intensified offensive across the Gaza Strip.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, 17 people were killed during the night in Gaza. The identities of the victims were not immediately provided by WAFA.
Medics in Gaza reported that at least six individuals lost their lives, and dozens were injured in airstrikes on Khan Younis. Witnesses told dpa that approximately 30 airstrikes hit the area, causing widespread destruction. Many parts of the city also experienced a loss of internet connectivity.
Reports from Palestinian media, including WAFA, indicated that a special Israeli military unit had killed a commander of the al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, a group allied with Hamas. However, this information has not been independently verified.
The Israeli military stated that it takes all necessary precautions to avoid civilian casualties while targeting Hamas and other terrorist organizations. However, this claim remains unverified, as reporters have limited access to the region.
Over the past few days, the Israeli Air Force has conducted widespread aerial assaults on various targets across Gaza, and Israel launched a new “extensive” ground operation on Sunday. Reports indicate that dozens of Palestinians have died daily in the ongoing conflict.
