Zamfara students abducted during WASCE, 20 victims freed

The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued four students of Government Day Secondary School, Birnin Yero, in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of the State who were abducted while sitting West Africa Senior School Certificate examination.

Also rescued along with the students are 20 other kidnapped victims.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkana, said, “On November 22, 2021, around 7pm, policemen deployed in the Shinkafi area, acted on intelligence and rescued the four students along with the other victims.

“The victims have spent 60 days in captivity before their rescue.

 “They will be medically checked, undergo police debriefing before we hand them over to the state government to be reunited with their families.”

The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, commended the state police command for fighting bandits in the state.
