You offer illegal admission to candidates – JAMB indicts popular UNIABJ

  • The University of Abuja on Tuesday, April 13, came to the public glare for a negative reason
  • JAMB listed the academic institution as one of the Nigerian universities that offer illegal admissions to candidates
  • The board said UniAbuja grants admission not processed by its Central Admissions Processing System

According to Fabian Benjamin, the head of public affairs and protocols of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the University of Abuja is one of the Nigerian tertiary schools offering illegal admission to students.

Benjamin in a statement on Tuesday, April 13, claimed that the institution grants admissions to candidates without recourse to its Central Admissions Processing System(CAPS), Daily Trust reports.

He said:

“Consequently, such admissions are illegal, unacceptable and offensive to extant rules and regulations guiding admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria as approved by the Federal Ministry of Education and provided on CAPS.”

Moreover, JAMB’s spokesman, as reported by The Cable, said the university also requires students to pay acceptance fees for admission.

Based on the foregoing, Benjamin advised candidates not to accept or pay for such admission or any one at all not processed by CAPS.

His words:

“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, therefore, advises all candidates not to accept any admissions that are not provisioned on CAPS.
“Candidates are advised, in their own interest, not to accept such admissions done outside the purview of JAMB nor pay any acceptance fee as such admissions will never be allowed to stand.”

Meanwhile, not less than eight foreign universities in the Republic of Benin, Niger, and Cameroon had been banned by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from taking part in the 2021 Batch A orientation course.

Most of these schools, otherwise called Cotonou universities, award degrees a few months after matriculation.

Although the NYSC leadership did not state the reason for this drastic decision in its circular (dated Friday, March 5) to state/FCT coordinators, it informed all D&R and foreign-trained verification officers in states to take note.
