Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has called on students to steer clear of fraudulent practices and resist the lure of quick wealth, stressing that only hard work and discipline can lead to lasting success.
Governor Soludo made the remarks during an event in Awka, the state capital, organized by the Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) in collaboration with the NGO, E-KEEPAS Enterprise, to mark the 2025 International Day of the Boy Child.
Represented by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, Soludo expressed concern over the rising prevalence of internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, among young people.
“You must understand that hard work pays,” the governor said. “Do not idolize or envy fraudsters. They are not role models. There are abundant opportunities within this administration for you to develop yourselves. With discipline, persistence, and focus, you can secure a bright future.”
He encouraged students to explore fields like Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and other productive avenues to build sustainable careers.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Akachukwu Maduakolam, an educationist, spoke on the theme “Boys Today, Great Men Tomorrow”. He emphasized the critical role of mentorship in the upbringing of the boy child, urging parents, community leaders, and industry players to support their development.
“The boy child, just like the girl child, is vulnerable to negative influences and societal pressure. We must guide them properly and help them stay on the right path,” Maduakolam said, encouraging the boys to persevere and resist temptation.
The event brought together male students from public, private, and mission-owned secondary schools across the state capital.
Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of ANCISRO, Mr. Chuka Nnabuife, said the programme aimed to instill moral values in young boys and empower them with knowledge, helping them make better life choices rather than chasing harmful societal trends.
