Work earnestly for peace, unity, Buhari tells new Bichi emir

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Saturday, urged the newly coronated Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Bayero, to work assiduously for continued peace and unity.

This is as he called on emerging leaders in the country to rid the nation of divisiveness.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘President Buhari preaches unity as Bichi Emir receives Staff of Office.’

In an address to the Emir and his people in Bichi during the inauguration, read by his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, the President said the prevailing circumstances of the nation impose a demand on leaders to “display their qualities and work earnestly for continued peace and unity.”

Going down memory lane, the President described the Emir’s father, the late Ado Bayero, as a leader who devoted his life to the unity of Nigeria, saying when he reminisces about Ado Bayero, he remembers unity, simplicity and good leadership,

Buhari expressed optimism that the new Emir will exhibit similar qualities and “even much more, as he has begun to exhibit” within the few months of his reign.

Other members of the presidential delegation are the ministers of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd); Agriculture, Sabo Nanono; Aviation, Hadi Sirika and Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu as well as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
