Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly denied rumors of a possible presidential bid in 2027, stating unequivocally that he will not run against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speculation had grown following Wike’s recent call for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South — a move many interpreted as a signal of his political ambitions.
However, in an interview with BBC News Pidgin over the weekend, the former Rivers State Governor dispelled the assumptions, affirming his loyalty to the current administration.
“I will not contest. Why would I run against someone I am working for?” Wike said, emphasizing his alignment with President Tinubu’s government.
He further stated that the opposition currently lacks a viable candidate capable of defeating the president. “I won’t contest again. I cannot run against someone I am working with. Who can even win against him?” he added.
